What's New:  Wi-Fi Hotspots and FiOS

MPC, in partnership with Verizon, NYC Wireless, Monroe College and the High School for Computer and Technology, is working to help our community “cross the digital divide.” Our approach is threefold: 1) Installing infrastructure for Wi-Fi in various locations throughout the community; 2) Providing computers and access to computers; 3) Providing training on how to use computer and accessing the Internet.

Wi-Fi
We are installing Wi-Fi connectivity for individual businesses, such as the V.I.P.’s Cafe and Williamsbridge Oval Park. Look for Hotspots to pop up in other areas of the Jerome-Gun Hill Business Improvement District, including a laundromat and a fast-food franchise. We are also working on installation of FiOS access for five residential buildings owned by MPC.

Computers and Access to Computers
Throughout our community, there are community and senior centers, libraries and Internet cafes that have computer labs, including MPC. MPC is developing an inventory of those computer labs and, occasionally providing refurbished and updated computers to organizations.

Training
In collaboration with Monroe College and the High School for Computer and Technology, MPC will be providing computer training in our own computer lab and throughout the community.

Training will be one-on-one tutoring, with classes developing. Our tutors will work, free of charge, with any skill level, from learning how to use a mouse, to getting a free email account.
