Commercial Revitalization Programs
NYC Clean Streets Programs- Kingsbridge Road Commercial District
In an exciting new venture, MPC is working with the NYC Small
Business Services (SBS) and the property owners/merchants of Kingsbridge Road
and Jerome Avenue for NYC’s Clean Streets Program.
The NYC Clean Streets Program objectives are twofold: 1) To
support local merchant associations in keeping their districts clean; and 2) To
build the capacity of newly developed merchant groups.
The area for the program includes Kingsbridge Road from the Grand
Concourse to Sedgwick Avenue, and Jerome Avenue from 192nd Street to 195th
Streets.
As part of the NYC Clean Streets Program, SBS and MPC are also
coordinating a graffiti removal blitz along East Kingsbridge Road and Jerome
Avenue. Soon afterwards, the NYC Clean Streets Program will also be providing
uniformed sanitation workers to pick up trash, clean tree pits, remove posters
and bills from signposts, and make the streets and sidewalks cleaner, more
attractive places to do business and shop.
Avenue NYC Program
Webster Avenue Business Corridor
With funding from the NYC Small Business Services, MPC is excited
to announce its new Avenue NYC program. The purpose of the program is to create
a marketing strategy for Webster Avenue commercial corridor between Fordham Road
and East Gun Hill Road. It will be based in the home improvement and auto
businesses that already exist on this corridor. Based on the success of the
Jerome-Gun Hill BID map model, we will work with Webster Avenue merchants to
create a Map and Guide, along with other strategies.
The marketing strategy development is a cooperative one. Other
interested parties are four institutions; Montefiore Medical Center, Fordham
University, the Bronx Zoo and the NY Botanical Garden; and two BIDS at either
end of our area, local merchant associations and others.
204th Street/Bainbridge Avenue Shopping District
Recently, MPC’s outreach to the 204th Street and Bainbridge
Avenue commercial district has been supplemented by funding from various
agencies. As with all economic development projects, we are working on a
variety of goals to help develop an even healthier economic base in this
commercial district. With funding from NYC Councilman Oliver Koppel, we are
working to establish a stronger merchants association and eventually a Business
Improvement District. NYS Senator Gonzalez also funds graffiti removal,
sanitation services (have been provided by a generous grant from NYS
Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera) and general beautification, marketing and holiday
lighting.
