Child Advocacy Center

In October
2002, MPC got to
work on the transformation of the Gun Hill Jewish Center on
Reservoir Oval, a remnant of Norwood’s disappearing
Jewish past. The old
synagogue is now the
headquarters for Montefiore
Medical Center’s School
Health Program, providing
wellness services to over
10,000 children annually,
along with providing space
for the abuse prevention
programs of the hospital’s
Child Protection Center. |

The office
of Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión helped to fund the renovation, while
MPC acquired the building, raised funds and supervised the project. Additional
funding came from the Engelberg Foundation, whose executive director, Rabbi
Balfour Brickner, praised the building’s new use as a true “House of Assembly.”
