Nathan Straus Synagogue

Montefiore Medical Center purchased the Nathan Straus Synagogue on DeKalb Avenue in Norwood as a site for a project that was not ultimately implemented. When the local Mosholu Montefiore Community Center was unable to implement a plan to add a third floor to its building. MPC worked with Montefiore and the community center’s major funder, the State Dormitory Authority, to use a portion of the Nathan Straus building for expansion of their day care operations.

Opened in September 2005, the former Synagogue now houses six day care classrooms and three after school center rooms. The buildings former Hebrew School will house programs of Montefiore’s Department of Medicine.
